Less than a handful are first language speakers of Bodéwadmimwen, the Potawatomi language. The recordings of these elders are precious pieces of cultural knowledge, and the process of manually transcribing them is time-consuming and expensive, limiting the amount of access that people have to this cultural knowledge.
This tool marks the first step towards achieving this aim, as it is a transcription tool for use through the browser. This version uses the generic Whisper model as a starting point. However, it will be soon outperformed by a community-trained model.
